Consulting
Use my knowledge to save you money

I have been working in the school and community education sectors in Australia, New Zealand and Mexico for over 16 years. This experience, combined with my years of playing in brass bands and concert bands, then becoming a professional French horn performer puts me in a unique position of having vast amounts of knowledge and practical know how with all the brass instruments. I would like to use this to assist other educators who have great intentions and would like a little extra guidance.
I have successfully established a flourishing community youth brass programme, was contracted by the Auckland Philharmonia to assist with the set-up phase of Sistema Aotearoa (an orchestral youth music programme based in Otara), have coached a young brass sextet to prize-winning level at a national contest, and have recently been invited to establish innovative junior brass programmes at both St Cuthbert's College and Diocesan School for girls.
My fees for consulting are $50 per hour, with a minimum of $150 per session (even if less than three hours is required). In the long run, getting the right advice is worth thousands, so it's a small investment to make. (If you don't have the relevant knowledge, you wouldn't buy a car without paying for an inspection, right?). In the case of professional development for educators, you could get a group together so the fee is split, therefore becoming very reasonable.
For those who don't live in Auckland, I am happy to offer consulting via email/skype.

Establishing a programme:Music programmes usually start with great gusto, but commonly end up nothing more than an expensive white elephant. Established correctly, with fail safes in place, a functioning music programme will enhance the lives of all those involved and enrich the school and wider community in general. As a brass educator, my focus is primarily on brass, but I have substantial experience with woodwinds, strings and percussion, so I can assist in these areas also.
Below are some examples I can guide you in:

Professional Development:New Zealand has some incredible music educators! I am often astounded by what they are are achieving throughout the country in both youth and community sectors. No one can know everything, though, so it's a real shame when a great programme is let down by problems in the brass which could be easily remedied with some fundamental knowledge.
If you would like to polish up your theoretical and/or practical knowledge of all brass instruments (or just focus on one or two), I can help you in a fun, collegial and confidential manner (you'd be amazed how many high level music educators feel ill at ease when faced with French horn transposition, beginner brass written range, the notorious "spit key", etc.) Here are some of the concerns I can help you with:
